    • This was one of the most delightful novels I’ve read in a long time. It was low on angst, filled with humor, and I can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled I am to have found another Historical Romance author whose writing and characters reminded me of my three favorite writers in this genre; Julie Garwood, Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas. The wit, the passion and the lighthearted but touching story madeAt The Bride Hunt Ball a book I couldn’t put down. We first see Madelyn Haywood as she’ [...]

    • 5 hilarious stars !A delightful read !!! I cant believe I let the cover fool me into letting this book lie on my To-read shelf for so long !!! AT THE BRIDE HUNT BALL,is basically the t.v show THE BACHLOER retold completley in victorian style.Olivia parker has successfully combined her writing to be one composing of both Julia quinn's humor and Lisa kyplas serioussness, beautifully. The story starts, with 7 young ladies predictably persuading a youngest, rich bachelor Mr.Wolverest Tristan as a potent [...]

    • We’re going on a Bride Hunt…but I’m pretty sure it’s the Duke who’s afraid.I’m finding it hard to write a review for At The Bride Hunt Ball as I'm not sure I could do it justice. It was bloody good and had all the things I absolutely adore in my historical romance reads. I think the humour was the highlight. Then again it could have been the quirky heroine. Some might think it's the hero who steals the show with his straight-laced rules that get thrown out the window once he meets th [...]

    • Gabriel Devine, Duke of Wolverest has a plan, snare his younger brother a wife to carry on the Devine line, leaving him free to go on about his life in an unwanted marriage, but when social disaster Madelyn Haywood walks in his life, his life is turned upside down! Olivia Parker debut is such a fun read, with some slap-stick comedy that will have any reader laughing out loud as some of the things that Madelyn gets into! Madelyn is pretty klutzy and always ends up in a some sort of disaster or an [...]

    • Big tsk tsk on me for not picking up this hidden gem of a read sooner. And why? Well for two reasons: the cover (yes I said it “the cover”) looks old fashioned and too stereotypical older style romance (I know, don’t judge a book by its cover and I’ve been burned before for doing just that but I guess I’ll never learn—lol!) and the second reason is that it’s OOP. It’s been my experience that OOPs are out of print for a reason (they suck) but I can’t for the life of me understan [...]

    • Don't you love it when you don't have high expectations about a book and it turns out to be a delightful read? That's what happened with this book. Knowing its premise was similar to the TV show The Bachelor - a group of girls gathered in the same house for a period of time with the sole objective of catching the coveted bachelor -, I wasn't sure I'd enjoy this read. Well, I'm glad I overcame my initial prejudice because At the Bride Hunt Ball ended up being a very entertaining read.Gabriel Devi [...]

    • Another great find thanks to Good Reads and Misuzmama's lists. Olivia Parker has a great talent for writing physical comedy. Even though I predicted a couple of the gags before they actually came to fruition, she still had me laughing out loud.A clumsy heroine, Madelyne Haywood is still a delight. She's stubborn and uninterested in the two Devine brothers who are holding a house party in order for the youngest to find a bride. The duke himself doesn't wish to ever marry, having seen the damage [...]

    • ★★★★☆ I really enjoyed this one, so much so, I was very tempted to give it 5 stars. It was fast-paced and entertaining and slightly different. The characters were likable, believable, and held my attention at a time when that was all but impossible to do. There was a tiny inconsistency: (view spoiler)[did the step-mother know that Madelyn ran from Gabriel in the conservatory or not? (hide spoiler)] - but nothing to write home about. The author copped out a bit at the end with a Big Lit [...]

    • Love story was great for a historical romance. The commitment phobe Duke falls in love with the klutzy, funny girl that can finally make him laugh and smile.

    • What a delightfully entertaining book! I loved the hero in this book, Gabriel Devine, the Duke of Wolverest. He knew what he wanted and he went after it. The heroine was clumsy and awkward but hilarious! If you are looking for a book that is easy to read, light, funny and with just enough steam to fog up the windows, read this book! I give my recommendation to everyone who loves these things in a story! Enjoy! :)

    • "Oh lord, the things I've yet to do to you. I should warn youif you ever wander into my private office again, you'll be well and truly ravished right there upon my desk." "Is that a threat or a promise?" "Choose whichever inspires you to misbehave."I don't know if the reason I loved this book so much is that I just finished one of the most depressing, least romantic books I've ever read, or if this book was just wonderful. I have a feeling it's a little of both. Then again, maybe it's the cover. [...]

    • I absolutely loved this book, thanks Dhestiny for the rec. Madelyn Heywood wants to be a spinster. She is tired of the marriage mart and her heartless and controlling stepmother plotting ways to increase her own social status. Madelyn also wants to guard her heart, because love can surely only break one's heart. At her last season she gets invited with her shy wallflower friend, Charlotte to the Duke of Wolverest's mansion for a two week stay with a handful of bride hopefuls for the Duke's young [...]

    • Maybe a little more than 4 starsThis book takes our modern day Bachelor tv show and turned it into an HR. It was cute and sweet. If you’ve read a good amount of HRs then you have met our H/hs before. We have the charming, clumsy, not so rich but full of personality heroine. She is kind of like Cinderella where she’s lost both her parents and is stuck with an evil stepmother – she has no interest in getting married and would be perfectly happy living in the cottage she grew up in (probably [...]

    • The first book in the Devine & Friends series. I saw this one get some good reviews but was worried I'd be disappointed as I have with many highly rated novels. But truly I loved it. This was a dialogue driven novel. The dialogue was witty and entertaining for me.The hero, Gabriel Devine, Duke of Wolverest, was a confessed rake and didn't want to give up his lifestyle to marry and produce the required heir. So he has decided to make his younger brother his heir and find him a bride. Seven yo [...]

    • 3.8 starsA well-written story, I was glad that I followed through with the recommendation :-) Nowadays, it was quite difficult to find a historical romance not heavily influenced by the modern romance, where usually the heroins were strong if they are outspoken or readily to flung convention. And that's why my interest in HRs slowly fading, even though I used to love everything about this genre. So stumbling upon a book like At The Bride Hunt Ball (the title was quite put-offing, actually), I wa [...]

    • Please don't hate me you guys, for not loving a book that is such a favorite with you! I guess I just wasn't in the right mood for this? It was extremely fluffy and cheesy, and I found myself rolling my eyes too much to enjoy it. Mostly I was annoyed by the heroine though. She was one big cliché, supposed to be adorable and clumsy and just oh so different from all the other girls, and for some reason it just annoyed me. Oh well. I'm sure it was just me, not the book, so I'll definitely give the [...]

    • At the Bride Hunt Ball is definitely one of the BEST romance novels I've ever read--and I've read hundreds! The writing is perfect, the characters are well-developed and interesting, and the plot is a complete balance of humour and romance. I certainly found myself thoroughly taken in by the book. I LOVED IT.

    • 5 stars just for the adorableness of this book. Thankfully, no great big misunderstandings. I loved the h and H, great anticipation and satisfying conclusions. This story comes complete with wicked stepmother and moments of hilarious hi-jinx.

    • The old adage of never judging a book by it’s cover truly applies here. The cover of this book is atrocious, but the book was wonderful. My best description for “At the Bride Hunt Ball”; light, sweet, funny, and delightful. This is my first read by this author and it was really enjoyable. The H and h were both fun and the h’s escapades had me giggling throughout the book. Sometimes you just need candy for dinner and this was mine. Very enjoyable. A

    • I have been lazy with my reviews lately, so I'll keep this short. I loved this book! I think that it was an excellent romance for a debut novel. It was not flawless, but it really worked for me.I've always loved the rake/wallflower combination. It may not be the most original plot device out there, but it's still one of my favorites. I went into this book with high expectations and I was really eager to read it. A couple of chapters in the book and I realised that Madelyn is not exactly the wall [...]

    • Even after reading this book with less interest than I normally have for HR, I really enjoyed this book - after suspending some amounts of logic. Part of my lagging interest could be explained to me expecting Lisa Kleypa's style - my fault since the last book I finished was written by her, so it it was highly unfair.Madelyn Haywood (I love her name - I think its really pretty) is one of the 7 women chosen to be marriage candidates to Lord Tristan Devine. Hardly an ideal candidate for duchess, sh [...]

    • Oh gosh. I absolutely LOVED this! I started it this morning and obviously had a bit of trouble putting it down since I'm now done :) Madelyn was a little insecure about her beauty and was a trifle clumsy, but she captivated Gabriel Devine, Duke of Wolverest, from the very first time he saw her.when she insulted him and pegged him the forehead with a lemon :D I laughed and even kind of teared up when she told she wouldn't marry him. Thankfully, they worked that out and they got their Happily Ever [...]

    • A light read, no dark mystery. Just a fun loving read about mutual attraction. The heroine has some quirky behaviors and they are amusing not annoying. And the hero is besotted but tries to fights the feelings. I think this was a great debut for this new author and I am looking forward more from her!! A keeper for sure!

    • At the Bride Hunt Ball is Olivia Parker's debut novel, and the first of a series. When I first looked at the cover, I figured it was from the 80s or 90sagine my surprise to see it is only a couple of years old! Cheesy romance covers never die, my friends. The story is a good one. Gabriel, a Duke and determined bachelor, decides to hold a massive house party full of eligible women (handpicked by him, of course) so that his younger brother can choose a bride and continue the family line for him. Th [...]

    • What a gem! A pure delight! *Jumping up and down, clapping my hands*This book was so good! I have a goofy smile on my face. I utterly adored everything about it. I can't believe I had it on my TBR-shelf for so long. As so many others, I was skeptical to the cover and the premise but I was so wrong. It is charming, light-hearted, funny, romantic and just a pure delight. We get to spend two weeks in the English countryside and go on outings in the beautiful surroundings. I am so putting a road tri [...]

    • I really enjoyed this book - a romance with no pretensions to be anything other than a romance (with some cute comedy mixed in). I'll be reading OP's next book and will definitely keep up to date with her new releases.

    • I had to give this one a go seeing others review it so well, but I will be honest in saying I had reservations. I like my HR to be at least somewhat accurate and plausible, and the thought of a "Bachelor" style house party to find a bride for a duke's brother didn't immediately sell me. In fact, if it weren't for positive reviews, I wouldn't have touched this one with a ten foot pole. I was, overall, pleased with it and enjoyed it. ATBHB falls somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars for me. It is cute [...]

    • Lets just get it all out there, this book was boring and typical. And I swear one of the genres was humor. Really? Cause I wasn't laughingThe main character was your typical British chick born and raised, oh and half American but I don't see how that matters. They say she's "speaks her mind" but I haven't seen it. I've seen her murmuring her mind or that's pretty much it. There is nothing I can see that is special about her.The whole thing is summed up like this; (view spoiler)[- guy says he's n [...]
